Fire Instructor Gave Out Test Questions

February 1, 2008 - 12:01pm
WASHINGTON - A D.C. Fire Department instructor has been removed from his teaching duties, pending a departmental review of allegations he gave exam questions in advance to seven firefighters seeking a promotion to the fire investigative unit.

Fire Department spokesman Alan Etter says after officials learned the questions had been provided to some applicants, a different test was given.

However, a report by the inspector general found the way the test was administered gave some students an unfair advantage over others.

The instructor has been moved to an administrative position while the review is pending.

The inspector general's report says an internal fire department investigation could not substantiate a finding of racial or sexual discrimination.
