WASHINGTON - It's moving day for the quirky public sculpture "The Awakening."

The artwork depicts a bearded giant appearing to crawl out of the ground.

Crews took apart J. Seward Johnson's sculpture Wednesday morning at Hains Point in East Potomac Park.

The 17-foot tall, five-piece, cast aluminum sculpture will now "awaken" the waterfront at National Harbor in Prince George's County.

Milt Peterson of The Peterson Cos., the developer of National Harbor, bought the sculpture from the California-based Sculpture Foundation last spring.

The sculpture will be unveiled in April at the 300-acre shopping, residential and entertainment community across the Potomac River when National Harbor launches its water tax service and lunch and dinner cruises.

"The Awakening" has been on loan to the National Park Service and has been a popular attraction since 1980.
