Unfortunately, the Metro car doors do not operate like elevator doors and open when there is an obstruction. What would happen if someone, especially a child were caught in the closing doors? Not a pleasant prospect.
Metro is going to pay to have her handbag repaired. But the bigger concern is the safety issue. Our volunteer also learned the car she used, a 1100 series, is one of the oldest cars in the Metro fleet and has had some serious safety issues. A recent Washington Examiner article pointed out the many problems.
