What Should Team be Called?

Baseball is coming to the District.

Here at WTOP, we are receiving a steady stream of emails about what the name of the team should be.

The Most Popular: (in no particular order)

  • Senators
  • Nationals
  • Federals
  • Monuments
  • Grays
  • Eagles
  • Generals
  • Patriots
  • Potomacs

Among the Most Interesting:

  • Gridlocks
  • [CLASSIFIED] (with names blacked out on uniform)
  • Blue Sox
  • Red, White & Blue Sox
  • Filibusters
  • Frankenfish
  • Explos (as in Exploding Manhole Covers)
  • Ex-Expos
  • Angel-O's
  • Pandas
  • Cicadas (because like the Wizards, they'll make the playoffs every 17 years)
  • D.C. Diamonds
  • Kerfuffle (thanks Wall Street Journal)
  • Beltway Bandits
  • Cowboys (They're the only team that seems to be able to win in D.C.)
